Homework

Every child from Junior Infants to Sixth Class inclusive is generally given homework each week night. Homework is not given at the weekend. Each child should have a homework journal. Oral work such as spellings, tables and reading are as important as written work. Please listen to your child reading and check spellings and tables. Parents/Guardians are asked to ensure that their child completes their work each night and are requested to sign the homework journal each night.

JUNIOR & SENIOR INFANTS
HomeworkChildren should be spending around 10 minutes per evening including paired reading.

FIRST / SECOND CLASS
Children should as a general rule spend around 20 minutes on their homework.

THIRD / FOURTH CLASS

On average 30 minutes should be spent on homework.

FIFTH CLASS / SIXTH CLASS
Children in Fifth and Sixth should be spending 40 minutes on their homework.

Homework should be relatively hassle free, if your child is spending considerably more than the above times on their work it will be counterproductive. Please contact the child’s teacher to discuss your child’s homework if this should arise on a frequent basis.
